After a month of public pressure to release details of the police officer wanted in connection with the murder of detainee N. Dharmendran, Kuala Lumpur police today released the suspect’s photograph and particulars on their Facebook page.
The officer is identified as Inspector Hare Krishnan a/l K. Subramaniam (pic) from the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters criminal investigation department.
He has been on the run since June 15.
In a statement released this evening, KL CID chief Datuk Ku Chin Wah urged those with information on the fugitive cop to inform the nearest police station or SMS the KL police at 32728.
In a press conference earlier today, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar had rubbished comments that police were practising double standards when it came to prosecuting their own.
He was referring to statements from the opposition who claimed police were trying to protect the inspector by not revealing his identity although he had gone missing and was being sought in a murder investigation.
Police had initially said that the officer was on leave but later admitted that he was on the run.
Khalid said, “We have given him enough time to come forward. We are done with that now. His picture will be published in our website under the wanted list.”
Also today, Lawyers for Liberty had also criticised the police for their “lackadaisical and irresponsible” attitude in pursuing the fugitive.
Hare Krishnan’s three subordinates – Sergeant Jafri Jaafar, Corporal Mohd Nahar Abdul Rahman and Corporal Mohd Haswadi Zamri Shaari – were charged with Dharmendran’s murder on June 5. Also charged was a fourth man, who was not named. That person is believed to be Hare Krishnan.
Dharmendran, 31, died in the cell at the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters while under remand. Post-mortem revealed that he had died of multiple blunt force trauma and his death was classified as murder. – July 16, 2013.
