KUALA LUMPUR: The fourth suspect, Inspector S Hare Krishnan, was today charged for causing the death of N Dhamendran on May 21. He was charged under section 302 along with section 34 of the Penal Code.
Deputy public prosecutor S Nithia informed the court that the prosecution was awaiting for the final post-mortem report which will be produced during the case mention on August 2
Defence counsel for Hare Krishnan, S Kavitha, G Sri Kumar and N Kalyana Sundaram did not raise objections.
Yesterday, Inspector S Hare Krishnan turned himself in at Bukit Aman after going into hiding for six weeks.
Four days ago, Hare Krishnan revealed that he lodged a police report on June 1 claiming that he has been made a scapegoat in the death incident of N Dhamendran.
On July 5, three policemen Sergeant Jaffri Jaafar, Corporal Mohd Nahar Abd Rahman and Corporal Haswadi Zamri Sahari were also charged for the murder of Dhamendran who was found dead in the KL police contingent headquarters’ lock up.
A week earlier KL CID chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Ku Chin Wah announced that Hare Krishnan was on administrative leave but went missing since then.
‘Not in hiding’
The 32-year-old Dhamendran was arrested on May 5 for alleged use of fire arms in Bandar Tun Razak but died mysteriously 15 days later while in remand.
The police had initially claimed that Dhamendran died due to breathing difficulties but post – mortem report revealed that he had 52 injuries with his ears stapled.
Lawyer Latheefa Koya held a watching brief on behalf of Dhamendran’s family.
Meanwhile, when met outside the courtroom, Dhamendran’s wife, S Mary questioned why it took so long for Hare Krishnan to come forward.
“I don’t believe him. He should have come forward earlier. Why did he hide?” asked Mary.
Hare Krishnan’s lawyer, G Sri Kumar however dismissed claims that his client went into hiding.
“It is not true to say that my client went into hiding. He claimed innocence on June 1 and appointed legal counsel.
“It was only two or three days ago that the police called my client,” said Sri Kumar.
