PROTEST AT HIGH COMMISSION OF SINGAPORE
Singapore knowingly executed innocent M’sian Vignes Mourthi

The terrible miscarriage of justice that led to the execution of Malaysian Vignes Mourthi was recently highlighted by British author Alan Shadrake in his book ” Jolly Hangman”.  For his pains, Alan was arrested in Singapore and now faces contempt of court and criminal defamation charges. What did Alan expose that so angered S’pore authorities? He revealed that the police officer upon whose perjured testimony Vignes was hanged, had been facing rape and sodomy charges at the time. Subsequently, he was convicted for a corruption offence! S’pore’s notoriously harsh and toadying judiciary connived in the hanging of Vignes. When Vignes’ lawyer M.Ravi asked Chief Justice Yong Pung How, whether an innocent man can be hanged because of procedural matters, he replied ” Yes, the answer is yes.” The hands of Singapore’s judges and its oppressive Government are red with the blood of innocents. As usual, the Malaysian government also paid no attention and let Vignes die.

A Memorandum of Protest containing the demands of Vignes’ family and for an end to the persecution of Alan Shadrake will be handed over to the Embassy by Vignes’ father, his lawyers, Lawyers for Liberty and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall.
