PETALING JAYA: Human rights lawyer Eric Paulsen has been arrested for sedition over tweets he posted on hudud.
The Lawyers for Liberty (LFL) executive director was arrested yesterday over two tweets posted on his Twitter account earlier the same day.
City CID chief Senior Asst Comm Zainuddin Ahmad confirmed the arrest and said Paulsen was being investigated under Section 4(1)(c) of the Sedition Act 1948 over his tweets.
According to LFL legal coordinator Michelle Yesudas, Paulsen gave his statement to the police at Dang Wangi station.
“The police said that they want to keep him overnight and will apply for a remand today (Monday),” Yesudas told The Star Online yesterday.
She added that Paulsen was arrested at Dataran Underground after attending an arts event.
He was previously charged in the Sessions Court over a tweet in which he allegedly accused the Malaysian Islamic Development Department of promoting extremism.
