Police will call lawyer Americk Sidhu to have his statement recorded over the Statutory Declaration (SD) signed by his client, Charles Suresh Morais.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the revelation by Charles, who is the brother of the late deputy public prosecutor Datuk Anthony Kevin Morais, was a serious matter that must be investigated.
“Police have informed him (Americk) and he will be called anytime to have his statement recorded. Hopefully, he (Americk) will cooperate.
“We want to know what was discussed between Americk and his client before the latter left the country.
“As this is a serious matter, we need to hear from the lawyer who helped Charles in the SD,” he told a press conference in Bukit Aman federal headquarter today.
Khalid added the police had opened an investigation paper under Section 202 of the Penal Code for withholding information.
Following a packed media conference last week in Americk’s office, Charles had then left the country via Johor Baru.
Charles claimed that his brother’s murder pertained to his work on preparing a charge-sheet against a “high-ranking government official”.
